John McLaughlin is one of the pioneer in Minimalism and hard-edge painting. Having travelled quite a lot, his geometric abstraction is influenced by the Japanese philosophy of the «void», absence of element is as important as the element itself. This work of him on the right I find really interesting for its placement of elements, the color scheme and of course, the blank negative space around it. The objective of this project
is firstly, recreate the piece using generative code. The second part is to re-imagine the work in an animated generative context. My choice of animation emphasises of course on the negative space (expanding or reducing it) as well as the relativity of the elements within the composition itself (multiplying, stretching). Mouse interaction can also let users control partly the rhythm of the movement.
